Synopsis

As Singapore’s workforce continues to age, with life expectancy reaching new heights and fertility rates remaining low, the traditional three-stage model of education, work, and retirement is becoming increasingly outdated. The challenge for employers is to rethink the concept of longer working lives, particularly for mature and senior workers, and create systems that support career growth, progression, and productivity throughout these extended careers.

Career development is a lifelong process, and it remains key to an employee’s ability to navigate various career transitions, especially in later stages of life. For the ageing workforce, providing structured career development opportunities and comprehensive career action plans is crucial to ensuring that employees stay motivated, enhance their skills, and remain productive. In doing so, employers can increase workforce resilience and employability while ensuring business continuity and growth.

However, many organisations face challenges in navigating the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders when it comes to career progression and transition for mature and senior workers. A structured approach, such as Structured Career Planning (SCP), provides a systematic and clear framework for aligning employees’ career goals and aspirations with organisational needs. By fostering a supportive environment for career development in later life stages, businesses can benefit from the wealth of experience, knowledge, and expertise that older workers bring to the table.

This session will share the latest trends in Singapore’s workforce demographics and provide best practices in career development for mature and senior workers. Participants will gain insights on how to turn the ageing workforce from a potential liability into a productive asset. The session will also explore the role of HR in fostering productive longevity, aligning organisational goals with the capabilities and aspirations of mature employees.

This session will be facilitated by the SNEF Centre for Labour Information & Analytics (CLIA). Limited seats are available due to the exclusivity of the event.
